What programs are in place to ensure schools are prepared to handle emergency incidents?
SB-EOP – School administrator maintain site specific Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), which serve to identify critical functions and resources that are necessary to manage that arise on campus. These emergency procedures take into account the specific school’s logistics and campus layout when determining the proper response.
Emergency Management Coordinators (EMC) – District employees assigned to collaborate with school administrators, first responders and District Administrators to ensure that all staff, students and visitors are safe using an all-hazards approach.
School Emergency Response Team (SERT/SAFE) – Each school maintains a School Emergency Response Team (SERT/SAFE) that is responsible for responding to emergencies during a crisis. Those staff assigned to be part of the SERT receive additional training to support their function as emergency team members.
Tabletop Exercise – District EMC’s will conduct an annual discussion-based tabletop exercise in which they test their plans and training against an emergency-based scenario. Typically, the school resource office and school administrators will participate in these exercises.
Facilitated Discussions – Annually, school administrators lead their staff through facilitated training discussions on various school safety topics. These discussions are based on the State and Districts’ safety protocol and procedures.

How does CCSD maintain preparedness?
Every school is required to update annually it Site Based Emergency Operations Plans. Schools are also required by NRS statues to conduct and maintain records of all emergency drills conducted. (Lockdown, Secure, Hold, Fire, Earthquake and Evacuation)
How often do schools conduct drills, and what types are conducted?
School-based drills are mandated for educational institutions (public, private and charter), per NRS 392.450, Nevada Statute. Drills must be conducted every month that school is in session.
CCSD schools conduct drills each school year that includes fire drills, secure drills, lockdown drills, shelter drills and participates in the Nevada great shake out drill.
